SECURITY

The door prices seen in our showrooms include ironmongery and locks but you many want additional security we can offer.

You can also if you wish use your existing lock, although we would recommend that you go for a new lock to maximise your security.

Front Door Security
Many burglaries occur through the front door. Secured by Design recommends all front doors should have a British Standard mortice deadlock fitted once third from the bottom of the door, as well as a nightlatch fitted one third from the top. In addition, door bolts should be fitted top and bottom, with a door chain and viewer to identify callers.

British Standard 5 lever deadlock
The main form of defence against attack. Requested by most major insurance companies as a requirement for home contents insurance. If you do not have a valid lock on your door, if burgled, your insurance company can refuse to pay out.

Nightlatch
Automatically locks a door when it is closed. Unless it is certfified as British Standard, this should never be used a the main lock.

Door chain
Allows easy identication of callers before the door is fully released.

Door viewer
Helps identify callers before opening the door.

Door bolts
Fitted to the top and bottom of the door to give an extra point of contact from the door to the frame. This provides better protection against forced attack.

Hinge bolts
Prevents attack on the hinges by bolting into the hinge side of the door.
Back Door Security
Your home is only as strong as its weakest point. The back door requires just as much consideration as the front.

Secured by Design recommends it should be fitted with a British Standard mortice sashlock plus door bolts fitted at the top and bottom of the door.
